Gentle, Compassionate Help for When You’re Hurting

“There is no pain so great as the memory of joy in present grief”

aeschylus

When you lose someone, there is no “normal” for you to return to…

Grief changes everything. Whether you’ve lost a loved one, a partner, a friend, or even a part of your identity or way of life; loss leaves an ache that can feel overwhelming, confusing, and isolating. Regardless of when your loss occurred, grief can feel like an unbearable weight that you cannot manage.  Even if you were anticipating the loss, life never feels quite right.  At Thrive Counseling and Wellness, we help you to work through the pain, sadness, anger or whatever it is you might be feeling so that you can start feeling like life is worth living.  I am also here to tell you that it’s okay to feel like you are struggling, even if people in your life are telling you to move on.  You might not be able to “get over it”, but you can grow and learn to live again.

Grief looks different for everyone but you might benefit from support if you are feeling:

  • Depressed, hopeless or anxious

  • Numb, angry or overwhelmed

  • Difficulty focusing/and or working

  • Feeling guilty

  • Struggling with your relationships and feeling disconnected to others

  • Helpless as you remember memories associated with your loss

  • Utilizing unhelpful coping skills, such as overeating or drinking

  • A sense that the world has changed and nothing feels right anymore

Whether your loss was recent or happened years ago, your grief is real. And therapy can help.

Anticipatory grief

You might also benefit from grief support if you are experiencing anticipatory grief, which may develop as you prepare for a loss.  Anticipatory grief might arise as you are facing your own loss because of a terminal illness, or that of a loved one.  Working through your grief as you are on this path can be helpful to address your emotional needs and help you feel more connected to your life, despite your impending loss.

  • Honor your loved one and the meaning of your relationship

  • Manage the day-to-day impact of grief on your life

  • Reconnect with purpose, peace, and identity

  • Adjust to life after loss, without pressure to “move on”

We move at the pace you need. There’s no timeline. Just support.
